Unless it uses a hibernation type mode where on shutdown it dumps the system state to a file I don't see that happening either. Google Chrome is trying to beat the 10 second boot, thats 10 seconds from the end of POST to useable OS using a browser based stripped down OS and they're getting close.

What I find most odd about the article is the timing, 7 is only about a year old this seems quite early for the next revision most IT shops are still working on deploying 7 and they're talking 8. If they start rolling out new OS too often they're going to see a major drop in revenue as IT offices skip them.

Eveybody knows you skip every other release of Windows anyway, :D

Windows 7 is good, really good. Probably the best OS they have released IMO. So I find it hard ot believe they will get all these great improvements over in such a short time. WHich means they are going to rush, which means hey we will have another ME or Vista on our hands.

Looks like a presentation that was suppose to be for OEM vendors only got out this week about M$ Windows 8. Seems they're in awe of Apples 'it just works' features and want it in Windows. I was right though the increased startup time is coming by way of improved hibernation features. They're also working on an App store (again apple inspired) that would let you purchase Windows apps that have been vetted (safe) and will auto update and follow you from system to system. As a tech I find this feature extremely useful since most security issues are now coming from common third pary apps (adobe) and are more difficult to keep patched as they each have they're own utility for detecting and installing updates.
